Allelomorphs

Allelomorphs (from allele + Greek morphe form) are varieties of the same gene that differ from each other by nucleotide substitutions.

Allelomorphs are inherited according to Mendel's laws and occupy the same location (locus) in homologous chromosomes. But at the same time, they can carry different information and determine the manifestation of different variants of the same trait.

For example, allelomorphs of the gene responsible for hair color in humans determine light brown, black or blond hair color. Thus, allelomorphs are allelic variants of one gene.
