Apyrexia (apoplexy of the pituitary gland; English apyrexia or apoplexia of the pituitary, Latin apyrecticus/us - without temperature; also apihypopituitarism) is an endocrine dysfunction in which the production of gonadotropins and corticotropin ceases. As a result, the patient experiences amenorrhea. If gonadotropic hormones stop being produced, damage to the reproductive system may occur. Men experience sexual dysfunction, spermatogenesis (sperm production) stops working, erection weakens and infertility develops, and testicular atrophy appears.
