Contraceptives for women: which ones to choose? Part 3

The issue of protection from unwanted pregnancy and protection from sexually transmitted diseases is relevant for women of different ages. But which contraceptive to choose, taking into account individual needs? We have tried to understand this topic and invite you to get acquainted with a series of reviews of contraceptives with a full description of the product, its pros and cons. We have already talked about some of the means. Today we are introducing a new series of contraceptives.

Cap

This is a soft rubber product that is placed on the cervix immediately before sexual intercourse. Like the diaphragm, it is prescribed by a doctor. You should also use spermicide every time you use the cap.

Pros. Ease of use.

Minuses. The caps have a high risk rating. For those who have already given birth, it is better to use more reliable means. May also cause irritation.

Sponge

A natural sea sponge or a polyurethane sponge combines both mechanical and chemical methods of action. Placed in the vagina several hours before sexual intercourse and removed 6-8 hours after. Before use, you need to wet it - the sponge contains spermicides that are activated with water immediately before use.

Pros. Does not require a doctor's prescription.

Minuses. The probability of becoming pregnant for nulliparous women is 12% and 24% for women who already have children.

Hormonal patch

The hormonal patch is applied to clean skin (shoulders, arms, stomach, buttocks). Contains hormones that enter the blood through the skin and block ovulation. You need to change the patch once a week; after 22 days, take a 7-day break for menstruation to appear.

Pros. The patch is suitable for women who can afford hormones. You can wear it while swimming in the pool or working out in the gym, just during water procedures - it will not come off.

Minuses. It's always worth remembering that the patch needs to be changed on a certain day of the week - this can be even more of a problem than taking pills every day.

Important! None of these methods of protection, except condoms, will protect against sexually transmitted diseases.
