Dysphagia Lusoria

Dysphagia lusoria (lat. lusus naturae - play of nature; synonym: mysterious dysphagia) is a swallowing disorder caused by an abnormal origin of the right subclavian artery from the aortic arch. This abnormality causes the artery to compress the esophagus, making it difficult for food to pass through.

Dysphagia lusoria is more common in women and is usually diagnosed between the ages of 50 and 70 years. The main symptoms are difficulty swallowing solid foods and a feeling of a lump or blockage in the throat. Sometimes patients describe pain or discomfort in the chest while eating. Diagnosis is based on contrast-enhanced radiography of the esophagus and computed tomography.

Treatment for dysphagia lusoria depends on the severity of symptoms. For mild manifestations, it is recommended to change your diet, drink more fluids during meals, and chew food thoroughly. In severe cases, surgery may be required - relocation of the abnormal artery or stenting of the esophagus. The prognosis with timely diagnosis and treatment is favorable.

Dysphagia lusora is a rare and little-known disease that occurs due to disruption of the esophagus and stomach. It manifests itself in the form of difficulties with the passage of food through the digestive tract. Dysphagia can be caused by various factors such as tumors, scars, ulcers, infections and other diseases. This type of eating disorder can lead to serious consequences, including dehydration, malnutrition, and even death.

Dysphagia lusa is a serious condition that requires immediate medical attention and treatment. Diagnosis of this disease may require several tests and procedures, including endoscopy, x-rays and other methods. Treatment may include surgery, medication, and lifestyle changes.

However, there are other points of view. Thus, some scientists believe that such a name is absurd in the sense that “lusad” is not dysphagia at all, but is a special meal (swallowing) during a holiday meal in Albania, Macedonia and, possibly, Greece. Sometimes “lusada” is compared with suspension or aspiration. However, most scientists believe that the mysterious case of this food has never been scientifically confirmed and its origin is unknown.

Thus, it can be said that the definition of "dysphagia lys" is difficult due to the differences in the use of this term by different medical schools, but in essence it is known enough for medical professionals to distinguish it from other types of dysphagia.
