Cholera enterotoxin

Cholera enterotoxins (cholerogens) are a group of toxins produced by some pathogenic strains of enteropathogenic cholera strains. The following producers are highly confirmed to be enterotoxins: Vibrio cholerae O1 Ogawa, V. cholerae El Tor (Vibrio mimicus), V. mimicus Nimmu, Escherichia coli 0127:H6 Kyushu and Shigella dysenteriae spp. dysenteriae type I.[

In the laboratory of molecular genetic identification of microorganisms isolated from humans or animals, to identify pathogenicity factors of V. choleras, a test is used to determine the presence of genetic determinants (toxR, toxS, ctxA, ctxB, zot) of cholera toxin and subtle genes (zfhx1b, hlyA) cholera varion adhesin.

The main biological effect of cholera enterotoxin is the removal of water from the body by increasing the osmolarity of the mucous membranes
