Epilepsy Migraine

Migraine epilepsy is a rare form of epilepsy in which epileptic seizures alternate with or are combined with migraine attacks.

Main features:

  1. Epileptic seizures of various types (tonic, clonic, absence seizures, etc.)
  2. Migraine attacks with characteristic headache, nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound
  3. Alternation or combination of epileptic and migraine attacks

The causes of migraine epilepsy are not completely clear. It is assumed that genetic predisposition, cerebral circulatory disorders, and biochemical factors play a role in its development.

Diagnosis is based on a thorough history, EEG, and MRI/CT of the brain. Treatment includes antiepileptic and antimigraine drugs.

Migraine epilepsy is rare, more often in women. Correct diagnosis and selected therapy make it possible to achieve control over attacks.
