Phlegmon is the general name for inflammatory processes in tissues of various locations and nature of origin.
Erysipelas (causative agent: group A streptococcus) is a form of local inflammation of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, occurring in people of any age. It is caused by this bacterial pathogen most often on the skin of the face, neck, and limbs when it enters the entrance gate through microtraumas of the skin, where there are no barriers against infection. The microorganism needs to penetrate inside the cells to carry out its destructive work, releasing toxins that lead to intoxication of the body.
The infection can also enter the body through damaged areas of the epidermis. In this case, there is a risk of bringing the pathogen inside and causing serious consequences. Another source of infection is clothing and other things touched by a sick person.
