Heiromegaly

Cheiromegaly is a rare disease characterized by excessive enlargement of the hands, feet, and sometimes the face.

The causes of cheiromegaly are not fully understood. It is believed that it is based on a genetically determined pathology of the endocrine system, in particular overproduction of growth hormone by the pituitary gland. The disease can be transmitted in an autosomal dominant manner and manifests itself between the ages of 5 and 25 years.

The main symptoms of cheiromegaly are an increase in the size of the hands, feet, and sometimes the nose and chin. The skin is rough, oily, with enlarged pores. Bone pain, sweating, and headache may occur.

The diagnosis is made on the basis of the clinical picture and X-ray data of the bones of the hands and feet.

Treatment of cheiromegaly consists of prescribing drugs that suppress the function of the pituitary gland. The prognosis depends on the age of manifestation of the disease and the effectiveness of therapy. If treatment is started early, progression may be slowed.
