Calcigard-10: instructions for use, indications, contraindications and side effects

Calcigard-10 (known internationally as Nifedipine) is a calcium channel blocker of the dihydropyridine group used to treat arterial hypertension and prevent angina attacks. The drug is manufactured in India by Torrent Pharmaceuticals.

Calcigard-10 is presented in the form of capsules containing 10 mg of the active substance - nifedipine. This drug is usually recommended for patients with hypertensive crisis, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, Raynaud's disease, pulmonary hypertension and broncho-obstructive syndrome.

However, like any other drug, Calcigard-10 has its contraindications and side effects. It is not recommended to use the drug for patients with hypersensitivity to nifedipine, acute myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, severe aortic stenosis, decompensated heart failure, severe arterial hypotension, tachycardia, pregnancy and breastfeeding.

When using Calcigard-10, side effects may occur, including facial flushing with a feeling of heat, palpitations, tachycardia, hypotension (up to fainting), angina-like pain, very rarely - anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, thrombocytopenic purpura, dizziness, headache, stupor, changes in visual perception, impaired sensitivity in the arms and legs, constipation, nausea, diarrhea, gingival hyperplasia (with long-term treatment), increased activity of liver transaminases, bronchospasm, myalgia, tremor, itching, urticaria, exanthema, exfoliative dermatitis, swelling and redness of the hands and feet, photodermatitis, hyperglycemia, gynecomastia (in elderly patients), burning sensation at the injection site (with intravenous administration).

In addition, Calcigard-10 may interact with other drugs such as nitrates, diuretics, beta blockers, tricyclic antidepressants, fentanyl, alcohol, theophylline, digoxin, vincristine, cephalosporins, cimetidine and many others. Therefore, before starting to take Calcigard-10, you should consult your doctor and inform him about all medications you are taking, including vitamins, mineral complexes and herbal preparations.

The dosage and duration of use of Calcigard-10 are determined individually depending on the severity of the disease, age and condition of the patient. It is usually recommended to start with the minimum dose and gradually increase it until the effect is achieved.
