The small intestine is not only part of the digestive tract, but also one of the most significant organs of the human body. It plays an important role in the absorption of nutrients, as well as in the regulation of metabolism and human health.
The small intestine is located inside the abdomen and is a long tube about 2.5 meters long. It consists of three sections - the duodenum, jejunum and ileum. Each of these departments has its own functions and features.
The duodenum is located in the upper part of the small intestine and is the first part of the digestive tract. It breaks down food into smaller components, which then pass further through the small intestine. The duodenum also produces bile, which helps the body metabolize fats.
The jejunum lies between the duodenum and ileum and occupies the bulk of the small intestine. Here, further breakdown of food and absorption of water and carbohydrates occurs. The jejunum is also involved in the production of vitamins and hormones.
