Coprolite

Coprolite is a solid mass of bird feces, to which particles of undigested food stick during defecation, which makes it difficult to eliminate solid food from the body and disrupts intestinal motility. Often found in brooding individuals, as a payment for increased care of the offspring, as well as when using excess food for other purposes.

Coprolites are irreplaceable companions for the nesting life of many bird species. However, with the end of the chick period, they lose mass, but the contents provide valuable information about the nutrition of certain species, and they can also tell about methods of protecting their habitats. For this reason, coprolites are studied by many ornithologists and biologists who are engaged in evolutionary research and the study of the relationship of a bird species with their area where they live.

Research using coprolites provides insight into the composition of local foods and sometimes even changes
