Laryngectomy

Laryngectomy is an operation to remove the larynx. It is usually performed in patients with laryngeal cancer (0.37% of all cases of laryngeal cancer and 98% of laryngeal cancer cases detected before removal); it is also required for severe tumors accompanied by functional damage to the respiratory and vocal apparatus. A similar in meaning, but technically simpler operation is laryngotomy. An operation combined with resection of the trachea and/or one or two bronchi is called “laryngectomy”, and combined with the removal of a lobe of the lung
