Treatment of debilitating diarrhea

In cases of dryness, consumption and other diseases of this kind, the hope of curing diarrhea is no greater than the hope of curing its cause, and in other cases the body is used with cooling and moisturizing agents, air and suitable watering. The disease is extinguished, for example, with cakes made from bamboo nodules and camphor cakes, cooling ointments and medicinal dressings on the chest, heart and liver. The patient is prescribed dishes from light varieties of meat in the form of jellies, boiled beef with vinegar and dishes with sour seasonings, as well as chopped fish with vinegar and honey and well-kneaded and risen white bread. Kissel with gum and starch is often prepared from toasted bread. Chowder with sorrel and the like is also useful. Diarrhea should not be fixed immediately; on the contrary, it is fixed gradually with the help of the indicated methods of treatment and especially with the help of cakes made from bamboo nodules with musk or such cakes: they take Armenian clay, bamboo nodules, chestnuts, hulled seeds of sorrel, barberry, roses, calcined gum and burnt crayfish, pound it all together , mixed with quince juice and consumed.
