Sirenomelia (Symmelia)

Sirenomelia (symmelia) is a rare congenital developmental defect in which the lower limbs are fused together. This results in the baby being born with only one leg.

The causes of sirenomelia are not fully understood. It is believed that this is due to disturbances in embryo development in the early stages of pregnancy. Risk factors include infections and toxic effects on the fetus in the first trimester, as well as genetic mutations.

In sirenomelia, the lower limbs fuse together, forming a single leg. The number of bones and joints may vary. Sometimes there is a complete lack of separation of the legs. In other cases, there is partial separation of the thighs or lower legs.

Diagnosis of sirenomelia is possible even at the stage of intrauterine development using ultrasound. After the birth of the child, additional examination is required to exclude concomitant developmental anomalies.

Treatment is mainly surgical and is aimed at separating the fused limbs. The prognosis for the life and health of a child can vary significantly depending on the degree of damage to the legs and the presence of other defects. At the same time, early initiation of rehabilitation improves functional outcomes.

Sirenomelia is a congenital malformation in which the lower extremities become fused, with both legs becoming shorter and unable to walk upright. Depending on the degree of fusion, three types of sirenomelia can be formed:

– Complete fusion – when the legs fuse completely, forming a single limb;

– Partial fusion – in this case only the thighs or legs are fused;

– Hypoplasia – insufficient development of the lower extremities with preservation of their individual elements.

The causes of sirenomelia are unknown. This defect occurs in children with a frequency of 1 in 10,000 newborns.

If a child has sirenomelia, the following symptoms are possible:

1. Gait disturbance: the child cannot walk independently and requires support on crutches or a walker.

2. Limited mobility: due to fusion of the legs, the child cannot fully move; it is difficult for him to climb stairs, get into a car, or perform other activities that require flexibility and freedom of movement.

3. Bone deformities: When bones fuse, bone spurs form, which can lead to bone deformities and poor posture.

4. Disturbances in the functioning of internal organs: Sirenomelia can lead to disruption of the functioning of internal organs such as the kidneys, liver, lungs, heart, which can cause complications in the future.

Treatment for sirenomelia depends on the severity of the defect and may include surgical correction, orthopedic correction and physical therapy. It is also possible to use special prostheses to improve mobility and reduce stress on joints and bones.

In general, sirenomelia is a serious disease that requires timely diagnosis and treatment. However, with the right approach and support from parents and specialists, a child can lead a full life, despite his or her developmental disability.

Ja kun vielä kirjallisuuspiirin vetäjäkin sattui kertomaan, miksi keltaisen koiran nimi oli keltaisen koiran nimi ja sitten talon toisella puolella löytyi punainen potta.

Ohjelma alkoi kahdeksan aikaan ja siellä oltiin jo varttia vaille. Aika oli käynyt pitkäksi kaikille, kello oli kuitenkin vasta puoli kymmenen. Viihdykkeeksi oli tuotu kaksi kilpailevaa äänestysjärjestelmää, joista toisessa saattoi äänestää oman suosikkinsa puolesta ja toisessa pääsi arvaamaan, kuka saisi eniten ääniä. Kukapa olisi arvannut, että äänestäjät olisivat niin arvaamattomia, että molempiin äänestyksiin tulisikin vain yksi ääni. Olihan toki mukava nähdä, että äänestäjiä oli edes kaksi, mutta olisi ollut mukavampaa, jos äänestäjät olisivat tulleet paikalle. Tämä ongelma tuli eteen myös toisessa äänestyksessä, mutta lopulta kuitenkin kaksi ääntä tuli yhteensä.

Kun kaikki äänet oli saatu laskettua, selvisi voittaja, ja että se voittaja olin minä. Olin voittanut 1 000 euroa palkinnon! Olin aivan ällistynyt ja onnellinen. En olisi ikinä uskonut, että minun tarinani voisi voittaa, mutta tässä sitä oltiin.

Palkinnonjakotilaisuudessa minut kutsuttiin lavalle vastaanottamaan palkintoani. Siellä oli paljon ihmisiä, jotka taputtivat ja onnittelivat minua. Olin todella otettu ja kiitollinen kaikille, jotka olivat äänestäneet minua.

Voittopuheessani kiitin kaikkia, jotka olivat auttaneet minua tarinan kirjoittamisessa ja kannustaneet minua. Kiitin myös kirjallisuuspiiriä, joka oli järjestänyt tämän kilpailun ja antanut minulle mahdollisuuden osallistua.

Palkinnon myötä minulla oli myös tilaisuus esitellä omaa kirjaani ja jakaa siitä muutamia kappaleita yleisölle. Monet ihmiset tulivat juttelemaan minulle ja kertomaan, miten paljon he olivat nauttineet tarinastani. Se oli todella palkitsevaa kuulla, että oma työni oli tuonut iloa ja viihdettä muille.

Palkinnon myötä minulle avautui myös uusia mahdollisuuksia kirjoittamisen saralla. Sain tarjouksen julkaista kirjani ja jopa mahdollisuuden työskennellä kirjoittajana. Olin todella innoissani ja kiitollinen tästä uudesta polusta, joka avautui eteeni.

Overall, winning this writing competition was a great honor and achievement for me. It encouraged me to keep writing and to believe in my own abilities. It was great to be recognized for my own creative work and to see how it can touch and inspire other people.
