A lens system is a group of optical elements that are used to refract and focus light. It consists of two or more lenses located behind each other and interconnected. Lenses can be made from different materials such as glass, plastic, metal, ceramics and others.
Lenses are classified according to various parameters such as shape, material, refractive index, ability to correct astigmatism and focus.
One of the main types of lenses are collective lenses, often called positive lenses. They are used to speed up the movement of light rays and create parallel rays of light. Collective lenses have a higher refractive index than diverging lenses. They can be used to increase the size of an image and to form flat or convex mirrors.
Other types of lenses include diverging and aspherical lenses. Diffusing lenses slow down the movement of light rays and are used in cases where greater range and image contrast are required. Aspheric lenses are used to correct defects in the shape of an object in front of the camera lens and improve image quality.
