Loneliness shortens life expectancy

Loneliness can significantly shorten your life expectancy. This is according to two new studies published in the journal Archives of Internal Medicine.

Researchers at the University of California followed a group of 1,600 people over 60 for six years and found that those who felt lonely were twice as likely to die during the study.

A second study indicates that people at high risk of developing heart disease are more likely to die from heart disease if they live alone.

The researchers suggest that assessing loneliness levels could help doctors identify patients at risk.
