Lucrin Depot: Synthetic antitumor drug for the treatment of prostate cancer and other diseases

Lucrin Depot (international name Leuprorelin) is an effective synthetic antitumor agent used to treat various diseases, including progressive hormone-dependent prostate cancer, uterine fibroids and endometriosis.

Lucrine Depot is manufactured by Abbott Laboratories in Spain and manufactured by Takeda Chemical Industries in Japan. It belongs to the group of synthetic antitumor drugs and contains the active substance - leuprorelin.

The dosage form of Lucrin Depot is presented in the form of a lyophilized powder for the preparation of an injection solution with a dosage of 3.75 mg and a lyophilisate for the preparation of a suspension for intramuscular administration, also with a dosage of 3.75 mg.

Indications for use of Lucrin Depot include advanced hormone-dependent prostate cancer, especially in cases where orchiectomy (removal of the testicles) or estrogen therapy is not possible or desirable. It can also be used to treat uterine fibroids and endometriosis that are confirmed laparoscopically.

However, Lucrin Depot has some contraindications. It is not recommended for hypersensitivity to gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogues, hormone-independent prostate cancer, uterine bleeding of unknown etiology, renal failure, pregnancy, lactation and old age.

When using Lucrin Depot, some side effects may occur, such as headache, depression, nervousness, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation, flushing, increased sweating, hearing and vision impairment, tinnitus, paresthesia, feeling chest compressions, ECG changes, decreased libido, dermatitis, itching, rash, as well as various sexual dysfunctions and problems with bone tissue.

The interaction of Lucrin Depot with alcohol can lead to an increased decrease in the speed of psychomotor reactions, therefore it is recommended to avoid drinking alcohol during treatment.
