Mandrake

The symptoms of poisoning with it are the same as the symptoms and phenomena of poisoning with dope, that is, lithargus, itching, cusaz, deafness. Mandrake bark has the worst effect; its seeds are close to it in this regard, and its body itself also sometimes causes some of these disorders.

Treatment for it is close to treatment for dope and opium. The patient should be given bitter wormwood in wine, as well as pepper, beaver stream, and rue. Mustard and vinegar help such patients, as well as everyone who is poisoned by drugs that cause numbness. With the same medicines they induce sneezing in the patient and give him a sniff of zift and the smoke from the wicks that are set on fire and then extinguished; one of the drugs that they should apply to the head is wine vinegar with rose oil. Such patients are not allowed to sleep, but on the contrary, they are woken up by plucking their hair, making them sneeze and squeezing the ends of their thumbs.
