The O Bernow muscle is a thin, flat, longitudinal muscle that runs from the inner corner of the eye to the mandibular fossa. Its name comes from the name of the physician Gideon Beirne, who first described it in 1754. It is one of the smallest muscles of the eye.

On the sides it is connected to the cornea, while its lower end is connected to the cribriform plate of the temporal bone. This allows her to move the bottom of the eyeball up, down, out and in.
