Placenta Fetal

The placenta is an organ that forms between the uterus and the fertilized egg (embryo). It serves to nourish and protect the embryo until it is born. It also regulates hormone and oxygen levels in the fetal blood.

**The placenta consists of three layers:**

1. Inner layer: includes villi and tubules that connect the uterus and placenta. 2. Middle layer: consists of numerous capillaries that ensure the flow of nutrients from the uterus to the fetus. 3. Outer layer: covers the inner surface of the placenta and contains blood vessels to deliver oxygen to the fertilized egg.

The placenta plays a key role in the development of the fetus until birth. After pregnancy, during childbirth, in most cases, the placenta separates from the wall of the uterus and comes out during labor. In some cases this may lead to bleeding.
