Amyloidosis is a group of disease states of different etiologies, common in which is the appearance of a specific lipoprotein - amyloid, which is a proteomacromolecule that is normally never found among the proteins of the body. This concept of clinical significance has now relegated its disease names to the background for most researchers.



Portuguese amyloidosis is a hereditary disease that is characterized by malignant development and primarily affects the peripheral nervous system and skeletal muscles (in rarer cases also the heart, kidneys, intestines and brain).
