Apinealism

Apinealism (lat. apinealismus) is the congenital absence of the pineal gland. The pineal gland, or pineal gland (lat. corpus pineale), is a small endocrine formation of the brain. It is located in the diencephalon and plays an important role in regulating the body's daily biorhythms.

Apinealism is a rare congenital disease caused by a violation of the embryonic development of the pineal gland. The causes of apinealism are not fully understood; presumably, it may be associated with genetic mutations or the effects of adverse factors on the fetus during pregnancy.

People with apinealism experience various disturbances in circadian rhythms: sleep disorders, problems with thermoregulation, changes in appetite, etc. In addition, hormonal disturbances and delayed puberty are possible. Diagnosis of apinealism is based on MRI or CT scan of the brain, confirming the absence of the pineal gland.

Treatment of apinealism consists of hormone replacement therapy to correct identified hormonal imbalances. It is also recommended to adhere to a sleep and rest schedule and phototherapy. The prognosis for apinealism is generally favorable with adequate treatment, but the development of certain neurological and endocrine complications is possible.
