Bergamot

Bergamot is an evergreen tree from the Rutaceae family. It is a subspecies of orange and resembles an orange in appearance. Cultivated in almost all subtropical regions of the world. The birthplace of bergamot is the West Indies.

The active ingredients of bergamot are essential oil containing about 40% linalyl acetate and other components such as limonene, terpineol, bergapten, bisabolene, nerol.

Bergamot oil is widely used in perfumery and is included in many types of fragrant eau de toilette. Previously used in dentistry for disinfection during operations and treatment of purulent wounds.

Allergic reactions to bergamot oil are possible.
