Cholesterol Ester Storage Disease

Cholesterol ester storage disease is a serious hereditary disease that is associated with impaired cholesterol metabolism in the human body. It was discovered in 1934 and named after the Hungarian endocrinologist Albrecht Wolman. Wolman was the first to describe this disease and give it a name.

Chondrosterol ester storage disease is a common cause of atherosclerosis in children and young people. It occurs in one in 200 people on the planet. The main causes of the disease are heredity and other genetic factors, as well as obesity, smoking, low levels of physical activity, poor diet and dysfunction of the endocrine glands.

Symptoms of the disease can appear in early childhood. Sick children have high concentrations of cholesterol in the blood, which can lead to the formation of plaques in the
