Caustic Soda

Caustic Soda is a white, hygroscopic solid that is sodium hydroxide (NaOH). It is a strong base and exhibits high alkalinity.

Caustic soda is obtained by electrolysis of a solution of sodium chloride (table salt). It is widely used in industry for the production of soap, paper, artificial fibers, and also in organic synthesis.

Caustic soda is a hazardous substance. It causes severe burns upon contact with the skin and mucous membranes. When working with it, you must take precautions and use personal protective equipment.
