Epidemiology and the geographic distribution of infectious diseases have traditionally been treated as separate sciences. However, data between them could not be obtained due to the insufficient level of knowledge of both the epidemiology and geography of infectious diseases. Moreover, studies of the spatial distribution of infectious diseases have suggested the transfer of certain methods from geography to epidemiology, but there have been no systematic comparative studies. As a result, epidemiological approaches often borrow statistical methods and procedures from geography, geology, biology, and other fields of study.
