Fading

Fading is a method used in behavior modification. Consists of gradually reducing the frequency or intensity of prompts (incentives) that were initially provided to shape the desired behavior.

For example, if a child needs to learn to dress himself, he may first be given detailed instructions and help with each step. As the skill develops, assistance will decrease until the child learns to completely cope with the task on his own.

This method allows you to gradually transfer control and responsibility for behavior from external cues to the person’s internal motivation and skills.

Incentive behavior modification, also called fading, is a technique that allows people to determine what they need and influence their behavior according to that determination. Unlike more traditional approaches to motivation, which rely on abstract values rather than specific needs, fading relies on how people respond differently to stimuli. It suggests that people can respond in more specific and targeted ways when they understand what they want.

The incentive in fading suggests that context matters, and that the same action can be described as positive in the same context,
