Funginal: an effective antifungal agent

Funginal, international name Clotrimazole, is an antifungal drug produced in India by the pharmaceutical company Rusan Pharma. It belongs to the pharmaceutical group of imidazole and triazole derivatives, which are widely used to combat fungal infections.

Funginal is available in various dosage forms, including a cream containing 1% of the active substance - clotrimazole. This substance is highly active against various types of fungi, including Candida albicans, Malassezia furfur, Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum and Microsporum canis.

The drug is used to treat various fungal infections. External forms, such as cream, aerosol, ointment and lotion, are used for the treatment of urogenital candidiasis, erythrasma, dermatophytosis, inguinal athlete's foot, paronychia, dermatomycosis of smooth skin, skin folds, beard, mustache, scalp, as well as for the treatment of onychomycosis, pityriasis versicolor lichen and other mycoses complicated by secondary pyoderma.

Tablets, gel and cream vaginal forms of Funginal are used to treat genital infections caused by Candida or Trichomonas vaginalis fungi, vaginal bacterial superinfections and for sanitation of the birth canal before childbirth.

Some side effects may occur when using Funginal, including local reactions such as erythema, blistering, swelling, irritation, burning and tingling sensations, peeling, as well as allergic reactions such as itching, urticaria and burning. When used intravaginally, itching, burning, vaginal discharge, headache, abdominal pain, increased urination, intercurrent cystitis, pain during intercourse and a burning sensation in the sexual partner may be observed.

Funginal is not recommended for use in case of hypersensitivity to clotrimazole, during pregnancy and lactation. It may also interact with some antibiotics, reducing their activity.

When using Funginal, contact with the mucous membranes of the eyes and areas of skin with impaired integrity should be avoided. The use of sealed dressings after applying the cream is not recommended. If irritation or signs of hypersensitivity occur, stop using the drug and consult a doctor.
