Glomangioma and Glomus tumor: clinical features and treatment
Glomangioma is a rare benign tumor that develops from the smooth muscle of blood vessels. Glomus tumor is also a rare malignant lesion that arises from the medulla of tissues called glomus, which are located in the skin. These tumors can affect any part of the body, but they most often appear on the legs or arms. They can cause serious circulatory problems and usually require immediate medical attention.
Classification and causes of tumor development
Both tumors are malignant and have different etiologies and pathogenesis. The first group is formed due to increased expression of the IDH2 gene, which is responsible for the production of isocytoside dehydrogenase molecules. It is a marker of tumors with healthy DNA and causes intense cell proliferation. The MYC and IGF-1 genes may also influence tumor cell proliferation. The second group is formed with an increase in the concentration of growth factors: transforming growth factor TGF-beta, platelet-derived growth factor PDGF and fibroblastic factor FGF. Another possible cause is genetic mutations leading to uncontrolled cell proliferation and transformation.
