Mediastinotomy Extrapleural

Extrapleural mediastinotomy is a surgical operation that is performed in the presence of pathology of the abdominal organs and requires an incision in the area of the extrapleural space. During such an operation, the surgeon creates a space that allows the abdominal organs to be removed without direct contact with the pleura, which ensures normal functioning of the lungs, making them capable of rapid gas exchange. The disadvantage of this operation is that the incision is made above the diaphragm, and therefore there may be a risk of damage to the nerves and veins responsible for the functioning of the diaphragm and other organs.
