Mountain ash
Common rowan is a deciduous tree or shrub of the Rosaceae family, up to 10 m high. The bark is smooth, gray. The buds are fluffy. The leaves are alternate, almost sessile, matte green above, grayish below. It blooms in May-June with white flowers. The fruit is an orange-yellow or red, shiny berry. Ripens at the end of September.
Distributed throughout the European part of Russia, the Caucasus, Siberia, and the Far East. It grows on the edges, clearings, river banks, and parks.
Used in the food industry. The medicinal raw materials are fruits, leaves, and bark. Contains vitamins, organic acids, tannins.
It has an antimicrobial, hemostatic, wound-healing effect. Increases vascular resistance, reduces cholesterol. The fruits are used for hypertension and kidney inflammation. Infusions are used for rinsing with sore throat and stomatitis. Fresh leaves have an antifungal effect.
