Organ of Hematopoiesis

The hematopoietic organ is the organ responsible for the formation of blood cells. The main hematopoietic organ is the red bone marrow. Hematopoiesis occurs in it - the process of formation of blood cells from hematopoietic stem cells.

Red bone marrow is located in the spongy bone. All the formed elements of blood are formed in it: red blood cells, leukocytes and platelets.

In addition to the bone marrow, hematopoiesis also occurs in the spleen, lymph nodes and, in small quantities, in the liver. These organs perform an auxiliary hematopoietic function.

Thus, the hematopoietic organs are the red bone marrow, spleen, lymph nodes and liver. Their joint work ensures constant renewal of the cellular composition of the blood.
