Holtz's reflex

**Goltz reflex**.

**Goltz** reactions are pathological for a healthy person, but very characteristic of certain forms of neurolepsy; differ in that the initial pathological sensations disappear under the action of a counter-stimulus and after a reactive spasm or other typical additional symptom. For the first time, these reactions, at the suggestion of S. _G. Goltz_ (S. Goltz), have been described in mania and parkinsonism. During an attack of mania, accompanied by rolling on the floor in search of a sexual partner, women experience sharp pain associated with inhibition of frictional movements. Patients (like some patients with persecutory mania) refuse to lie down on a hospital bed, as this increases the feeling of constriction. The pain is especially intense in the hips and back, radiating down and reaching the genitals and anus. It is provoked by the touch of bed linen to the skin and even a simple question: “Are you feeling good?” Various affective reactions are characteristic when touching the source of pain. The appearance of a reaction is usually associated with a certain trauma (breakdown of a relationship with a partner, the emergence of jealousy, divorce, etc.). The intensity, nature and possible localization of pain (mainly in the cerebral hemispheres) are so definite, specific and stereotypical that they can usually be reproduced on the sensory wall, which is used almost as often as the Monroe scale in diagnosing depression. Peculiar variants of Goltz's reactions are ritual actions that occur during catatonic stupor or develop after an attack of catalepsy. In some patients they occur only occasionally, usually in the morning or after an attack of catalepsy, in the daytime or in the evening. Various forms of catatonia are manifested by significant deviations in behavior from what is expected from the point of view of the current situation. In bed, the catatonic person sits for a long time with his mouth wide open, trying to take a deep breath. But he forgets how to do this, so he is forced to stand up and stretch his arms up while standing
