Zidovudine-Ferain

Country of origin: Russia
Pharm-Group: Antiviral - nucleosides

Manufacturers: Bryntsalov-A (Russia)
International name: Zidovudine
Synonyms: Azidotimidine (Timazid), Retrovir, Retrovir AZiTi, Timazid (Azidothymidine)
Dosage forms: capsules 100 mg
Composition: Active substance - zidovudine.

Indications for use: Azidotimidine in combination with other antiretroviral drugs is used to treat HIV infection in adults and children.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity, leukopenia (neutrophil count below 750/μl), anemia (hemoglobin content less than 7.5 g/dl), thrombocytopenia (decrease in platelet count to 25,000/μl), renal and/or liver failure (cirrhosis, chronic hepatitis) . Relative contraindications to the use of the drug are vomiting and severe nausea. Children's age (up to 3 years).

Side effects: Anemia (requiring discontinuation/reduction of the dosage of the drug, sometimes there is a need for blood transfusions), neutropenia and leukopenia, dyspeptic disorders (nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite, abdominal pain, diarrhea, flatulence), increased blood activity of “liver” transaminases , hypercreatininemia, increased serum amylase activity, fever, development of secondary infection, headache, rash, muscle pain, paresthesia, insomnia, discomfort, asthenia, drowsiness, taste disturbance, cardialgia, depression, increased urination, chills, cough.

Interaction: Concomitant use of paracetamol with zidovudine increases the incidence of neutropenia, apparently due to inhibition of the metabolism of zidovudine (both drugs are glucuronidated). Other drugs (acetylsalicylic acid, morphine, codeine, indomethacin, oxazepam, cimetidine, clofibrate) also alter the metabolism of zidovudine by inhibiting glucuronidase activity or directly inhibiting microsomal metabolism in the liver.

Overdose: No information.

Special instructions: It is necessary to systematically conduct studies of peripheral blood. The drug should be prescribed with extreme caution to patients with renal and liver failure, as well as elderly patients; in these cases, it is recommended to adjust the dosage regimen depending on the dynamics of the drug concentration in the blood.
