Training devices, accessories and weapons for fencing.

We have already talked about training devices for those athletes who are used to holding in their hands every day hilt edged weapons. As you probably already understood, we are again talking about fencers. We continue to study their training devices and newfangled technical solutions...

So, what other means can you diversify? fencing training?

A device for studying the reactions and training of athletes.

The device records the speed of reaction and accuracy of injections made with a fencing weapon on a target in response to visual stimuli that arise unexpectedly when the experimenter lights multi-colored light bulbs attached above the target disks.

Training a fencer on this device involves two options for its use:

  1. to determine the reaction time to a visual stimulus (colored light bulbs);
  2. establishing the accuracy of injections into the target at different stages of training activity (before the start of training, during training, when fatigue occurs, etc.).

The target disk has three light bulbs (white, green and red), allowing seven variations of light signals. At the same time, the experimenter is especially interested in the process of the reaction to a visual stimulus depending on the color effect.

Control panel 1 is a housing (Fig. 1, a), in which the main elements of the device circuit are located; an electric stopwatch with a division accuracy of 0.02 s, a lamp signaling the start of time counting; lamps indicating the accuracy of the athlete’s performance of the task; block for connecting connecting wires going to target disks. Inside the remote control there is a supply transformer, a semiconductor rectifier assembled on a bridge circuit, relays whose contacts ensure stopping the electric stopwatch and lighting the signal lamps, as well as relays that ensure reliable operation of the circuit.

Disk target 2 consists of three disks mounted on the same axis. Each disc is supported by shock-absorbing springs. For additional shock absorption when making an injection into the target, a layer of porous rubber 6 mm thick is glued to the outer surface of the discs. On the inside, metal pins are rigidly attached to the disks, mechanically acting on microswitches that open the electrical circuit of the relay. On the top of the target there is a panel with three multi-colored lights (red, green and white), with the help of which the coach gives a signal to the athlete (group of athletes) to perform certain tasks. The target is connected to the control panel with a flexible cord and suspended vertically at a height depending on the height of the athlete.

During training, when the fencer's weapon makes a thrust at the target, special pins open the microswitch contacts of a certain disk. The current disappears from the winding of the corresponding relay. At the same time, the electric stopwatch stops and one of the lamps L1, L2, L3 lights up, signaling a specific command. Microswitches open the relay winding circuit P1, P2, RZ only for the duration of the injection. Therefore, to reliably open the circuit of the electric stopwatch and the signal light L4, relays P4 and P5 are introduced into the circuit (MV1...MVZ - microswitches, Tr - transformer).
