Abscess Retropharyngeal

An abscess of the retropharyngeal space is a purulent-inflammatory process that occurs as a result of infection of the tissues near the pharynx and can be accompanied by difficulty breathing, an increase in body temperature above normal, as well as pain in the throat and jaw. This is a rather dangerous condition that requires immediate treatment. The surgical intervention itself also poses a threat, when manipulations under the skin of the neck are performed under general anesthesia, so therapy must be carried out properly.

The disease is most often characteristic of adult men who have professional activities related to working in unfavorable conditions. These conditions include activities involving heavy physical labor, work involving high temperatures, chemical exposure, and direct contact with rodents and birds.
