Dry or Moist Heat Treatment (Fomentation)

Dry or moist heat treatment (Fomentation, also known as poultice) is a method of treating various conditions that uses heat to improve circulation and reduce inflammation. This method was known in ancient times and was used to treat various diseases such as rheumatism, arthritis, colds and others.

During dry heat treatment, a special cloth is placed on the affected area of the body, which is heated to a certain temperature and kept on the body for a certain time. This helps improve blood circulation and reduce inflammation in tissues.

Moist heat treatment, on the other hand, involves using warm water or steam to create moist heat. This method may be more effective than dry heat because the moist steam penetrates deeper into the tissue and promotes better circulation and reduced inflammation.

Both methods have their advantages and can be used to treat various diseases. However, to achieve the best results, it is important to choose the right temperature and exposure time.

Although dry or moist heat treatment is a safe and effective treatment, you should consult your doctor before using it.

Dry heat therapy (Fomentalion) and moist heat therapy (Moxalion) are two different treatments used medically to relieve pain and symptoms of soft tissue inflammation. They both work by applying heat to specific points on the patient's body.

Dry heat treatment, also known as poultice, is used to quickly warm tissue and relieve pain. Dry heat is usually produced by heating wet gauze over a hot heat source such as hot water or a radiator. Then the soft tissues are heated through wet gauze, which retains heat and makes the procedure comfortable for the patient. Poultices can be used to relieve tired muscles and joints by kneading, scratching, or sawing the sore areas. This method is especially effective in removing stiff leg muscle after a severe sprain, when a regular poultice cannot completely release the muscle. Dry heat is also used to help with migraines by applying a hot, damp strip to the temples.

Poultices should be applied to clean skin and avoid contact with the area of the body that is located above the heart. Keep the moistened gauze at a temperature between 40-45°C and apply it to the affected area. Cool the skin slightly before removing the gauze. If painful sensations occur, take a warm shower and try to desensitize them with natural remedies such as essential oils. Reapply the moist hot strip if the pain returns.

Moist heat, also known as moxagemony, works by applying a direct heating tube (heat module) to the site of discomfort or injury. Hot tubes are powered by a battery or an electric heater. A solid heat substance (including medicinal charcoal, plaster of Paris, carbon sticks) is placed over the tube and applied to a specific area of the body. The heat gradually begins to warm up and expand the pores of the skin, just like dry heat. Moist heat treatments have a long list of purposes including joint pain, back pain, headaches, colds or coughs, increasing circulation and relieving muscle tension, helping to improve skin metabolism and fight cellulite. This is especially useful for use on the back or arms, where a regular vacuum muscle kneading belt is not very effective.
