Putrid blood is an infectious-inflammatory disease, which is based on generalized inflammation with bacterial colonization of the blood, as well as a necrotizing process at the site of pathogen penetration. The disease is caused by pyogenic microflora (streptococci, staphylococci), but can also be caused by non-infectious factors entering the blood (thrombosis, trauma, etc.).

The prevalence of the disease reaches 3%, of which about 75% of patients require intensive care and a full-scale hospital. 15-20% of patients develop septic shock, which should be treated immediately.
