Leukodystrophies are a group of hereditary diseases characterized by slowly progressive damage to the nervous system (cerebral leukodystrophies) and multisystem damage to internal organs (multifocal diffuse leukodystrophies).
Crabbe globoid cell leukodystrophy was first identified in 1925 by S.N. Davidenkov. In 1940, Crabber proposed the name Crabber's leukodystrophy. Subsequently, the terms “Krabberg leukodystrophic encephalopathy” or “globoid multiple dystrophy” began to be used to designate the form of the disease.
