Methanol (methyl alcohol) poisoning

Methanol is a very toxic substance. It is used as a solvent to denature non-potable alcohol.
Methanol poisoning occurs as a result of mistakenly consuming it as an alcoholic drink. Cases of poisoning occur especially often when people consume various liquids intended for household needs.
Signs and symptoms of poisoning
The initial stage of methanol poisoning is similar to alcohol poisoning. Later, a veil appears before the eyes, and vision loss may occur. In severe cases, severe damage to the nervous system, convulsions, paralysis, and death occurs.
First aid for methanol poisoning is carried out as in alcohol situations. The victim should be treated in a hospital.
