Psychic Duality

Mental duality is a condition in which a person experiences conflicting feelings or thoughts towards something at the same time. For example, a person can love someone and hate him at the same time.

The term "psychic duality" is often used as a synonym for ambivalence in psychology. Ambivalence means the simultaneous presence of positive and negative attitudes, feelings or aspirations towards the same object.

The causes of mental duality can be different. For example, it may arise due to an internal conflict of motives or desires. A person may want to do something, but at the same time understand that it is wrong or dangerous.

Ambivalence is often associated with anxiety and frustration. It prevents a person from making decisions and acting purposefully. Understanding its causes and openly discussing conflicting motives helps to overcome mental duality.
