Types of mixed martial arts.

For those who have not previously engaged in martial sports, it is unlikely that it is easy to distinguish hand-to-hand combat from, for example, the fighting of Wushu masters Sanda. Understanding the differences between different types of martial arts is key to finding the technique that's right for you. Often these differences are quite significant.

The main directions will be discussed below.

  1. Classic hand-to-hand combat is a common style that cannot be confused with an ordinary street fight. It includes many unarmed combat techniques, including, for example, the prone fighting technique (ground combat). In Russia, army hand-to-hand combat is also common, similar to the techniques of law enforcement agencies. An important nuance that distinguishes ARB from other mixed styles is the ability to finish off lying opponents with kicks in the face. This becomes possible thanks to a special helmet with a visor in the form of a metal mesh. ;
  2. No less popular is combat sambo, which differs from classical sambo in allowing punches and kicks. It is this style, aimed at organizing safe self-defense, that will help you gain self-confidence and develop physical fitness - combat sambo is one of the most dynamic types of martial arts. But nevertheless, greater emphasis in combat sambo is placed on fighting rather than striking;
  3. Wushu Sanda is a famous Chinese martial style. It is based on the so-called practice of “free combat” - aggressive and tough techniques that are most appropriate in the ring. Sanda's style is considered universal and easily counters other combat tactics. But a significant difference between this style is the absence of wrestling on the ground. All fighting in Wushu Sanda is limited to Take Downs;
  4. The Kudo style is preferred by people who value reaction and speed in battle - this direction of Japanese contact martial arts is easy to master and combines a number of features of karate, judo and Thai boxing. According to its rules, it is similar to Army Hand-to-Hand Combat, but nevertheless has some differences from it, both in the structure of the training process and in the rules by which competitions are held.
  5. Nowadays MMA is the most popular. Translated from English, this abbreviation means mixed martial art. This style uses a minimum of clothing and a minimum of protective equipment. Otherwise, this style is very similar to ARB, with the exception of the permission to finish off prone opponents with legs.
