Erythema Exudative Multiform

Erythema exudative multiforme

Erythema exudative multiforme is a cyclical disease characterized by erythematous-papular and bullous rashes on the skin and mucous membranes. The etiology of the disease is unknown. The pathogenesis is infectious-allergic and toxic-allergic (medicinal) in nature.

Symptoms and course. The disease begins acutely, often with an increase in temperature to 38-39°C and malaise. After 1-2 days, sharply demarcated oval or round edematous erythematous spots and flattened papules up to 20 mm in diameter, pink-red and bright red in color, appear symmetrically, predominantly on the extensor surfaces of the extremities.

After 2-4 days, new rashes appear, the temperature drops and the general condition improves. At the same time, the central part of the rash sinks, and the peripheral ridge acquires a cyanotic hue. In the center of many lesions and on unchanged skin, blisters with serous or hemorrhagic contents appear.

The blisters subside, sometimes open with the formation of erosions, and crusts appear in their place. In approximately 1/3 of patients, the mucous membrane of the mouth and lips is affected. The process begins with edema and hyperemia, then blisters form, which quickly open to form painful erosions.

After 3-6 days the process begins to regress and after 3-6 weeks ends with recovery.

The diagnosis is based on the characteristic clinical picture, seasonality and cyclicality of the course.

Treatment consists of prescribing glucocorticosteroids, antihistamines and antiseptics, and vitamin therapy. The prognosis is favorable, but relapses are possible.

Erythema is a superficial formation in the form of an area of hyperemia (redness) of the skin due to dilation of the blood vessels of the dermis due to inflammation or poor circulation. Erythema multiforme exudative (“MSE”) is a characteristic manifestation of an acute toxic-allergic immune sensitization reaction to medications and infections, i.e. to their introduction into the body, or to any other reason (including non-infectious) for which a local and/or systemic inflammatory immune response of the body occurs; manifests itself in the form of generalized erythema, often causing a strong general reaction, asthenia, headache, abdominal pain, adynamia, high fever, arthralgia, myalgia, symptoms of intoxication, dyspepsia (dyspeptic disorders), hemorrhages (hemorrhages).

Erythematous skin diseases are skin diseases, one of the main symptoms of which is a change in the overall color of the skin. Such pathologies can be inflammatory or allergic in nature. One such condition is erythematous exudative pathology or atopic dermatitis.
