Hyperglycemia is a condition in which the blood glucose level is elevated above 6.1 mmol/l. Hyperglycemia is caused by many diseases. The most common type of hyperglycemia is diabetes mellitus (DM). Glucose is the main source of energy for the body. It is an integral part of almost all metabolic processes.
The development of hyperglycemia is not a symptom that appears once and disappears on its own. As a rule, it becomes a chronic disease if the root cause is not treated. Usually the patient does not notice the problem that has arisen for a very long time. Normally, in the morning, all glucose levels should be satisfactory. And 2 hours after eating they should not exceed 7.8 mmol/l.
In a diabetic patient, elevated sugar levels may occur due to internal or external reasons. Causes and treatment are caused by the low glycemic index of patients. Insufficient production of the hormone insulin is the most common cause. In such patients, even with a good carbohydrate diet, a hyperglycemic reaction develops. If they have swelling of the face, weakness, or blurred vision, we can assume that diabetes mellitus has fully manifested itself.
