Caterpillars

Caterpillars are the larvae of butterflies and moths. They have a long worm-like body divided into segments. Several rows of small legs run along the body, with the help of which the caterpillars move and cling to leaves and branches.

Caterpillars feed on plant leaves, sometimes causing significant damage to them. Some types of caterpillars have poisonous glands and their bite can be dangerous.

The caterpillars that live on blackberry branches are especially poisonous. The place where such a caterpillar crawls itches for a long time, burns, and wounds appear. To relieve symptoms, it is recommended to lubricate the affected area with pure turpentine.

In general, caterpillars play an important role in the ecosystem, providing food for birds and other insectivorous animals. But some species can harm agriculture by eating crops.
