Insulinoma

**Insulinoma** is a disease characterized by proliferation (adenomyomatosis) and hypersecretion of pancreatic β-cells, which produce the hormone insulin.

Insulin is a protein hormone whose main function is to regulate blood glucose levels. Lack or excess of insulin causes the development of diabetes mellitus and is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

Symptoms of insulinoma may include high plasma glucose concentrations and their decrease with food intake, increased thirst, fatigue, frequent urination, hunger, and frequent episodes of hypoglycemia.
