Quitting smoking before age 30 will save women years of life

British scientists have found that women who quit smoking by the age of 30 lose on average only a month of their life; those who will not give up the bad habit in the future - at least 10 years.

The researchers came to these conclusions based on a 15-year study of more than a million women who started smoking in the 50s and 60s of the last century, when it became fashionable.

The results of the scientific research were published in the British medical journal Lancet.

Lead researcher Sir Richard Peto, from the University of Oxford, said: "Smokers, whether male or female, who stop smoking before middle age save on average up to 10 years of life."
