Schmidt, Reinhard P. (January 16, 1920 – December 4, 1979) was a German physician and biochemist, primarily known for his work on whey proteins and steroid hormones. Born in Hamburg, Schmidt first studied philosophy in Cologne and then continued his studies under Otto Lewy in Giessen, where he began his professional career as an assistant for Waalerke. He received his doctorate from Gusen in 1955. Between 1961 and 1980, he headed the lipid department at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Biophysics in Freiburg.
