Aspartate aminotransferase

**Aspartate aminotransferase** is used in medicine to diagnose and monitor the treatment of liver diseases, since it is in the tissue of this organ that its production primarily occurs.

Normally, the fermet value does not exceed 35 U/l; when the level of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) increases by more than 3 times the norm, the development of liver diseases should be suspected. *Iron deficiency anemia* – decreased iron is most often the cause of increased AST levels, therefore in the early stages it can be disguised as liver damage such as steatohepatosis
