Bouveret Sign

Bouveret's sign is a symptom characteristic of pyloroduodenal obstruction. It manifests itself as vomit containing bile, which takes on the appearance of “coffee grounds.”

The reason for the appearance of this symptom is a violation of the patency of the pylorus of the stomach and duodenum. Bile entering the duodenum from the bile ducts cannot move further through the intestines. It lingers, concentrates and, when vomited, acquires a dark color and thick consistency.

Thus, the bouvre sign indicates obstruction of the gastric outlet and is an important diagnostic symptom when examining patients suspected of this disease.
